| Tibet- The reason I have found it very important to include a page about Tibet has more to do with the enormous impact the knowledge of what the Tibetan culture has endured in the last 55+ years has had on me. I have casually studied Buddhism for years, finding a stark contrast in how Tibetan Buddhists incorporate their religious beliefs and philosophy into their daily lives as compared to Westerners. I have read a number of books by or about His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, and have "suffered" with the knowledge of the horrible atrocities inflicted on the Tibetan people. I, of course, am very attached to a need for the outcome I most desire- one of fairness and safety for the Tibetans and their culture. Interestingly enough, even though HH and His people have been treated very badly, I often hear the Dalai Lama or another lama or Rinpoche refer the Chinese occupation in manners such as "...when the Chinese invited us to explore other cultures and spread our Buddhism throughout the world..." No bitterness soils their words. But the Dalai Lama is extremely politically active in attempts to regain their homeland and leading his dispersed people. To hear the Dalai Lama tell stories of Tibetan nuns who made the dangerous trek to Nepal to be free of Chinese rule, and then to hear their biggest fear was that of losing compassion for the Chinese--- Stories like this seem so fictionalized, unreal, or unreasonable to my Western mind. So if I can be of any assistance in increasing awareness of what has happened in Tibet, of who the Dalai Lama is, of what a person can do to help, I will have humbly done my job. And please....
